What is the BalcoNano® Coating?

The BalcoNano® coating is a unique product that can transform ordinary glass surfaces into water replant self-cleaning glass.  

The BalcoNano® coating forms a hard, clear and smooth surface on the glass, covering entirely pits, peaks and valleys of the underlying glass surface. It transforms the surface into one that is charged and water-repellent. Water that now comes into contact with the coated glass will not have access to the pits and valleys; water will sit high on the surface and the droplets will tend to curl up and quickly roll away. Dirt, grime, calcium and other deposits will not be able to embed or cling strongly to the surface and will wash away easily.  

The coating is totally clear and invisible when applied. It is called a “Nano Coating” because the coating has a predetermined and chemically engineered molecular length (thickness) and thus will always create a coating that is 20 nm (nano metres), you cannot apply “too much” and as long as you apply enough, the thickness will always be the same.

How long does it last?

An important question to ask is how long does the BalcoNano® coating last once applied?

The answer will depend on several elements such as the location, use, exposure to abrasion and weather but to give a simple answer we can say the coating is good in static external conditions for a period of 3 to 10 years.

For a more detailed and technical answer let us start with how we measure the coating and coating performance; the coating forms a water repellent surface on the glass, this exhibits itself by making water droplets “curl” when in contact with the surface and the more they curl the better the surface coating is. This is referred to as “contact angle”. As the coating is subjected to the elements and to abrasion from sand, salt, manual cleaning, windshield wipers etc. it will slowly diminish the coating and reduce the water repellency of the surface.
 

The surface coating creates a clear permanent bond and only wearing will impact it, the coating does not chip, haze or discolour. The greater the abrasion on the surface the shorter period it will last. For instance on windshield wipers if used daily the coating may only last a few months, but in static conditions like windows, showers and balcony glasses the coating will last for as much as 10 years.

The surface is very durable to abrasion and scratching and can be renewed whenever you need by cleaning the glass and reapplying.

It is very important to have a clean surface before coating, free from oils, grime, dust, water and other materials. When these are present they will inhibit the ability of the coating to bond to the surface in the place where they are present. The cleaner the surface you wish to coat, the netter the coating will be. Once the BalcoNano® coating shield has formed it will have created a permanent bond with the surface.

The coating is sensitive to alkaline materials ( high PH materials -AKA bases) and these will remove the coating. In any case use of chemical cleaners is not required or recommended after the coating has been applied.

If you have cleaned the coating with a high PH material then it is likely you have removed the coating and it should be reapplied.

BalcoNano ® bonds chemically to silica based material and can therefore be applied to Glass, Ceramics, marble, porcelain and more.  

It DOES NOT bond to metals and plastics and cannot be applied to these.  

What Methods of application do we offer?

We can offer the coating for trade customers in our easy to use sachets or in liquid form.

Sachets – a double sachet that includes a cleaner sachet and a coating sachet. Each sachet set has pre-soaked towelettes with the liquids and each sachet is suitable to coat 1 square meter (11 square feet) of glass or other surface.

The advantage of the Sachets is in ease of application and in consumption control. If you want to apply 50 square metres you can use 50 sachets exactly and this is easy to control when employing labour.

Liquids – The liquids of the BalcoNano® coating and the cleaner can be purchased in 30lt container and IBCs.

With liquids the amount required per square meter will obviously very much depend on the skill of the user but we normally say that an experienced user will need 15-20ml of the BalcoNano® coating and 15-20ml of the cleaner for each square meter application.

Application is best done on the glass when it is clean and can be done at the glass processing factory or on site.  

What is the BalcoNano® Heavy Duty Cleaner?

For damaged and contaminated glasses we have an additional pre-treatment solution.  

The BalcoNano® Heavy duty glass cleaner - Some glasses with severe surface deterioration and corrosion caused by deeply-embedded dirt, grime and deposits that have accumulated over time can be restored by using Balcony’s unique heavy duty cleaner.

Easily-applied using a cloth, the BalcoNano® heavy duty cleaner loosens and releases these firmly-ingrained contaminants that can be difficult to remove with standard cleaners. Within minutes, the glass surface can be polished dry and restored to its natural shiny appearance

The BalcoNano® heavy duty cleaner is only the first step in restoring the glass. Once the glass surface is clean from all contaminants, the BalcoNano® self-cleaning glass coating should be applied to protect the surface from future contamination and maintain its sparkle

Pricing for trade partners or distributors

The costs for the coating sachets will work on a sliding scale. Each sachet set is made of two perforated sachets, a cleaner and the coating.  

The prices for bulk purchasing start from 500 units.  

Liquids can be supplied in 30 litre containers or in IBCs.  

BalcoNano Heavy Duty Glass Cleaner is supplied in 500ml bottles and bulk purchasing starts at 100 bottles.
